The Sacredness of Your Story: God Is Working Through You

I used to think my story wasn’t worth telling. Maybe you know the feeling.
As queer Christians, it might sometimes feel like our life doesn’t fit into the “testimony template” we see modeled in church. You know the kind: a clear before-and-after picture, complete with a neat bow of redemption. Our stories could feel messy… winding… still unfolding. And we may even wonder: is this a story God wants me to tell? The truth is that there are many out there with similar stories to yours! And the more LGBTQ Christians you speak to, the more you will realize that there is so much in their stories that you will find relatable.
In Revelation 12:11, it says, “They overcame by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” This verse wasn’t just for the polished stories, the safe stories. It is for ours. It is for yours. There are many out there who will benefit from hearing how God has been working in your life!
Our testimonies are not about having it all figured out. They are about being real about the valleys we’ve walked through and testifying to the God who walked with us. They are sacred because they are honest. They hold the ache of rejection and the slow, steady work of healing. They carry the power of God’s faithfulness in moments when we thought we were completely alone.
Maybe your story includes coming out and losing community. Maybe it includes years of hiding. Maybe it includes being told that your faith and your queerness couldn’t coexist. And yet, here you are. Still believing. Still showing up. Still seeking God. That’s powerful. That’s sacred. That’s worth sharing.
When you share your story, whether with one trusted friend or a whole room full of strangers, you are shining light into darkness. You are breaking shame. You are letting someone else know they’re not alone! And maybe most beautifully: you are participating in the ministry of Jesus, who told stories to bring healing and hope.
I used to be afraid that if I told the truth about myself, I’d lose my call, my friends, my place in the story God was writing, even my salvation. But what I found is this: telling the truth brought me deeper into it. It brought freedom. It brought connection. It brought Jesus closer than I ever imagined (this took time – it took time reconciling my faith with my sexuality).
God is actively at work in your life, just as He is in the lives of other LGBTQ Christians. Their stories can inspire, comfort, and strengthen you—and your story has the same potential to bless others. We aren’t meant to walk this journey alone. Community is a vital part of our Christian faith. We grow together, learn from each other, lift one another up, and hold each other with grace and accountability.
So if you feel that nudge in your spirit to speak, do it. Not because your story is tied up with a bow, but because God is in it and can use your story to encourage and uplift others!
I want to invite you today: share your story. Start small. Tell a friend. Or, if you feel led, write it out and share it with us here on the All R Called blog. Your words could be the exact encouragement someone else is praying for. Let’s remind the world that queer Christians have stories worth telling — stories full of grace, resilience, and God’s unwavering love.
You are not alone. You are not invisible. And your story is sacred. You are called!
